The «Ghila & Giorgio» partnership was born in 2000 between Giorgio Sala and Mauro Ghilardini: two voices, two acoustic guitars, a setlist of well-known songs and a firm intention to mangle them knowingly. In time, bassist Alberto Bigoni joined, immediately embracing the group's artistic principles — including the most celebrated: a total absence of rehearsals.
Pink Floyd, U2, Bob Marley, De André, Battiato: familiar (and often unremarkable) melodies transformed into something their own, reinterpreted, affectionately lampooned or treated with respect, stopping just short of ruining them entirely. Often sung in Grammelot. As Alberto Bigoni puts it: «we are true chocolatiers». But they know it. That's already something.
In 2017 Mauro and Giorgio performed acoustically on the summit of Pizzo Redorta (3,038 m), earning the new tagline «Sonorità in ascesa libera» — added to the existing «Sonorità in caduta libera». In 2019 came «Sushi Plays Wall», a tribute to Pink Floyd's The Wall. In 2023, «The Dark Side of The Sushi», marking fifty years of The Dark Side of the Moon.
Sonorità in caduta libera — and, since 2017, in ascesa too.
Sushi Cornucopia is a group that can slot into the most contrasting contexts — from a vernissage to a popular festival with thousands of people — without ever losing the reckless courage required when approaching the work of legendary artists. The playful dimension of music is always central: the audience receives something they know but cannot recognise, and usually appreciates it. Over time the band has operated under various names depending on the venue and occasion — «I tre maghi», «Il tre di picche», «Trì fa buna fì» — but nobody in the room ever knew.
